| Background | CD4 is a glycoprotein surface marker expressed by T helper cells, regulatory T cells and some memory T cells, B cells, monocytes, macrophage and dendritic cells. CD4 assists the communication of T-cells with antigen presentation cells by binding to MHC class II on the surface of antigen presenting cells. CD4 also arguments T cell activation by associating with T cell receptor and assist signal transduction through its intra-celluar domain. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) inhibits immunity by entering lymphocytes through CD4 receptor and destroying these cells. |
