Gene Symbol ERBB2
Gene Full Name Erb-B2 Receptor Tyrosine Kinase 2
Background c-erbB-2 is a 185kDa transmembrane tyrosine kinase belongs to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family. This family comprises four homologous receptors ERFR, c-erbB-2, cerbB-3 and c-erbB-4. The HER-2 gene is located on chromosome 17 at q21. Activation of c-erbB-2 through autophosphorylation at tyrosine residues, is initiated by either homo- or heterodimerization and triggers intracellular signaling events, which are crucial for cell growth, differentiation and survival. This antibody labels activated c-cerbB-2 that is non-phosphorylated at tyrosine residue.
